HE DIDN’T LAUGH,  he didn’t think think he deserved to anymore.  after all, snape did his best to spare as many lives as he could by working as a double agent for years, but what had draco done?  cowered in corners?  it was pathetic.

idly, draco reached up to scratch at his upper arm.  he had nothing to say that wasn’t a childishly hopeful plea, and  —  hell, he couldn’t even tear his eyes away from the fresh, eye-catching GASH on his throat.  it was a scalding reminder of the man who was responsible for it, but draco figured snape would have a harder time looking at it than he would.  the fact that it was rude to stare didn’t even cross his mind.  maybe that’s why people didn’t like looking at his face and neck.      but – you’ll have a trial, won’t you?   ”   the take care was completely ignored, and draco pretended he didn’t even hear it.

DRACO’S GAZE WAS IMPOSSIBLE NOT TO BE NOTICED.     it was understandable   —-   severus himself would avert his own whenever passing mirrors if he hadn’t already gone past the point of caring.   unlike the thin, white slash scars on his right arm & hand, memories held not so dearly from that dreaded evening at the astronomy tower, that one wasn’t likely to look much better.   many years before, the wizard would look up & tell himself he was much more than his exterior ;   right now, he was unsure he was anything at all, & if he was, it wouldn’t be so for too long.  it was alright, quite alright in fact.

‘ it was a settlement. ’    the ministry had the gushing wounds of war to mend, dangerous criminals to punish    —-   why waste resources on a man ready to plead guilty  his conversation with shacklebolt had been that short.  it was fair that he would pay for dumbledore, for the loose tongue that had cost him everything in what seemed a lifetime ago.   don’t waste energy worrying about me   —-  you have more relevant matters on your plate.
